This year, the Louisiana Blue Foundation was proud to present two dynamic sessions at the Grantmakers in Health Annual Conference, held in New Orleans. Both sessions highlighted innovative, community-driven solutions to some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare: workforce representation and youth mental health.

Session 1: Building Representation in Health Care

In this session, we explored how targeted educational initiatives are creating new pathways into healthcare careers for underrepresented students. Our featured grant partners are leading the way:

These programs demonstrate the power of community engagement, culturally relevant programming, and strategic partnerships in building a more inclusive healthcare workforce.

Session 2: A Teen Suicide Prevention Model Changing Louisiana’s Landscape

Our second session focused on the Peer Initiative – Leaders of Tomorrow, a youth-led nonprofit born from tragedy and driven by hope. After the loss of a student to suicide, teachers  took action—sparking a movement that now saves lives across Louisiana. The Peer Initiative combines:

  • Peer support networks
  • Mental health education
  • Advocacy and outreach
  • Partnerships with local universities and schools

This model is not only effective—it’s replicable. It fills critical gaps in mental health services and empowers youth to lead the change.

Looking Ahead

We’re grateful to our partners and fellow Grantmakers for the opportunity to share these stories and strategies. At Louisiana Blue Foundation, we remain committed to innovation and community-led solutions that improve health outcomes across our state.
