Huggins has worked tirelessly to increase public awareness and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders. She organized the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of the Autism Society of America in 1987, wrote a cookbook to increase awareness and raise funds for the chapter, and today distributes information daily via e-mail to more than 100 individuals on autism news, advocacy issues and state and federal legislative activities affecting children with disabilities.
